Can MI`s Suryakumar Yadav match De Villiers` all-time non-opener IPL run tally?
In the ongoing IPL 2025 season, Suryakumar Yadav has already amassed 640 runs in 14 innings. He has registered five half-centuries, with a highest score of an unbeaten 73

Mumbai Indians are all geared up to face Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2025 Eliminator match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
In the crucial clash, MI’s premier batsman Suryakumar Yadav will aim to reach another significant milestone. He is just 48 runs short of surpassing former Royal Challengers Bengaluru star AB de Villiers.
In the ongoing IPL 2025 season, Suryakumar has already amassed 640 runs in 14 innings. He has registered five half-centuries, with a highest score of an unbeaten 73.
According to ESPNcricinfo, he is the first batsman in IPL history to score 600 or more runs in two separate seasons. He had previously achieved this feat during the 2023 edition, scoring 605 runs in 16 matches.
Against Gujarat Titans, if the 34-year-old manages to score 48 runs, he will surpass de Villiers’ tally to become the non-opening batsman with the most runs in a single IPL season. In 2016, AB de Villiers scored 687 runs for the Bengaluru-based franchise.
In addition to this milestone, the Mumbai-born cricketer also boasts a solid record in knockout matches. Across 11 IPL playoff games, he has scored 329 runs at an average of 36.55 and a strike rate of 133.19. He also has three half-centuries in playoffs, with a highest score of an unbeaten 71.
The winner of the IPL 2025 Eliminator between MI and GT will advance to Qualifier 2, where they will face Punjab Kings on June 1.
