Mumbai rains: Mumbai Metro Line 3 services partially suspended
Mumbai Rains: With local train delays and severe road congestion already troubling commuters, the situation has worsened as a section of the newly launched Mumbai Metro Line 3 has been temporarily suspended. Metro Line 3 will not be operational between Worli and Acharya Atre Chowk until further notice.

The arrival of the Southwest Monsoon in Mumbai has brought with it chaos and disruption across the city. With local train delays and severe road congestion already troubling commuters, the situation has worsened as a section of the newly launched Mumbai Metro Line 3 has been temporarily suspended.
According to officials, Metro Line 3 will not be operational between Worli and Acharya Atre Chowk until further notice. Visuals circulating on social media show significant waterlogging at Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli, prompting authorities to halt train services on this stretch as a safety measure. However, services between Aarey JVLR and Worli are continuing to run smoothly.
In a statement, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) explained, “Due to sudden and intense rainfall, water seepage was reported at the under-construction entry/exit structure of Acharya Atre Chowk station, located along Dr. Annie Besant Road. The incident occurred after the RCC water-retaining wall at the entry/exit collapsed due to a sudden ingress of water from an adjoining utility.”
The MMRC further clarified that the affected portion is still under construction and not accessible to the public. “As a precautionary measure, and to ensure passenger safety, train services between Worli and Acharya Atre Chowk have been temporarily suspended,” the statement read. “However, services from Aarey JVLR to Worli remain unaffected and are operating as usual.”
The incident has sparked criticism and ridicule on social media, with many users expressing their disappointment over the disruption in a newly launched public transport system. In response, officials assured that restoration work is underway and that services will resume shortly.
“Our engineering and safety teams are on-site and working on a war footing to address the issue,” the MMRC said. “We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our commuters and request their patience and cooperation. Safety remains our highest priority, and services will resume only after all systems are fully secure and operational.”
Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, is operated by the MMRC—a government-controlled but privately managed entity. The first phase of the line, connecting Aarey JVLR to BKC, was launched earlier. The second phase, extending from BKC to Acharya Atre Chowk, was inaugurated on May 10, 2025.
