Thane Police Smash ₹13 Crore Heroin Syndicate

In a daring anti-narcotics operation, Thane Police have seized over ₹13 crore worth of heroin in two separate raids, exposing the reach of a powerful drug syndicate with deep underworld roots.

The first arrest stunned investigators. Wajahat Sayeed (47) was caught near Humanity Public School in Diva with 1.7 kg of heroin valued at ₹6.9 crore. Alongside him, police apprehended Mohammad Mahadik, a fugitive tied to the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts. Mahadik had lived abroad for 22 years under a false identity, with a criminal record spanning murder, kidnapping, extortion, and forgery. He is believed to be the main supplier in this case.

In a separate raid, police arrested Fardin Gulzar Mulla (50), an autorickshaw driver from Ghodbunder, with heroin worth ₹6.68 crore. Together, the seizures amounted to more than 4 kg of heroin, making it one of Maharashtra’s largest hauls in recent history.

Police have registered cases under the NDPS Act and are now working to trace the full supply chain. Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and share information that could help dismantle the network.

“This isn’t just about drugs,” said a senior officer. “It’s about breaking the backbone of organized crime that thrives on fear and secrecy.”
