Mumbai rains: Thundershowers expected in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a rainy and stormy week across several parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai and its nearby districts.
According to the recent weather report, a yellow alert has been issued in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region on Tuesday. These regions will experience thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds around 50-60 kmph at isolated places. Likewise, an orange alert has been declared in Raigad region for Tuesday and Wednesday, indicating very heavy rainfall, along with lightning and gusty winds.
Rain warnings issued across the state
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Chandrapur and Gadchiroli in Vidarbha, while yellow alerts are in place for several other areas including Pune, Satara, Chandrapur, and Gondia.
Widespread rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, is expected across much of Maharashtra on Tuesday. A red alert (extremely heavy rainfall) has been issued for Kolhapur, Sindhudurg, Satara, and Ratnagiri. On Tuesday, rainfall is likely to continue in Nashik, Ahmednagar, Jalgaon, and the eastern districts, including Beed, Jalna, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Impact expected
- Localised inundation/flooding of low-lying areas and urban areas.
- Possible uprooting of weak trees and collapse of old and unmaintained structures.
- Possibility of flash floods.
- Disruption to road, rail, air and ferry transport.
- Local disruption of municipal services (Water, electricity etc.)
- Flow of water over low-lying roads and bridges.
- Damage to horticulture and standing crops due to water inundation.
- Squally weather expected over coastal districts of Konkan.
- Rough Sea conditions along the coast.

- Landslide/Mudslides and rock falls in vulnerable areas
- Strong wind may damage plantations, horticulture and standing crops.
- Minor damage to kutcha houses/walls and huts.
- Possibility of cloud to ground lightning during thunderstorm events.
Precautions suggested by IMD
- Check for traffic congestion on your route before leaving for your destination.
- Follow any traffic advisories that are issued in this regard.
- Avoid going to areas that face waterlogging problems often.
- Avoid staying in vulnerable structures.
- Avoid working in open areas and fields during thunderstorms.
- Avoid taking shelter under tall trees and structures during a thunderstorm.
- Unplug electrical/ electronic appliances.
- Immediately get out of water bodies.
- Keep away from all the objects that conduct electricity.
IMD advisory
- As there is a possibility of thunderstorm activity accompanied with gusty winds (40 to 50 km/h),lightning and light to moderate rainfall, harvesting of matured crops should be done.
- Provide support to young fruits plants and vegetables to prevent from lodging.
- If threshing is not possible, the harvested produce should be covered properly.
- For protection from rains, the stored grains should be shifted to safe storage.
- Avoid irrigation and any kind of chemical spray.
- Make arrangements to drain out excess rain water from the field.
- Cattle should be kept at safe places in cattle sheds. Keep farm animals indoor during thunderstorm & lightning.
